Missourians went to the polls on Aug. 4 to cast their vote on four ballot initiatives. Voters passed Amendments 1 and 2 passed, while rejecting Amendments 4 and 5.

Amendment 1 continues the existing sales and use tax for another 10 years to fund environmental conservation initiatives, parks and historic preservation. Amendment 2 requires all counties, now to include Jackson County, to elect and not appoint county assessors.

Amendments 4 and 5 each failed with over 80% of the votes cast. Amendment 4 would have required the adoption of ballot initiatives to amend the state constitution by a majority of voters within each of the state’s eight congressional districts, replacing a simple majority statewide. Amendment 5 would have phased out the state’s income tax and be replaced with higher sales tax.
